Christmas Elves!

Do you believe in elves? I certainly do.

These are some wonderful old elves my great-grandmother recently passed down to me. Thanks grandma! I love these guys, as they are a big part of my childhood memories of Christmas time. I am so happy that they now get to hang-out at my house!Unfortunately Keith thinks they are creepy, and would be pretty happy if they disappeared. Thankfully he is a sweet and loving husband who is putting up with them.

Currently my sewing and knitting production is in full holiday mode as I try to stock-up my etsy shop, and make gifts for the loved ones. I can’t show anything I am making for the fam until after the holidays, but be sure to check out what I have been up to over at etsy:

So far I have only sold two items, but I am still super excited to finally have an etsy shop. I have always enjoyed looking at what other people have in their shops, and I am beyond proud to finally have a shop of my own. I hope the new year will bring only good things for my little shop. :)

Best wishes to you and yours this holiday season!

Snow Day!

Our walk this morning was very special indeed!

Also, I finished my second mushroom bag last night. I will be listing this on Etsy as soon as my internet connection allows.

Progress has been made!

I finished the apron I was making for a friend. It is Amy Butler’s Domestic Goddess Apron, the split bodice version. I did end up making a few changes from the pattern. I took five inches off the bottom, as it was going to be way to long for my friend. I also gathered the skirt rather than doing the pleating. I tried the pleating, but preferred a softer look in the end. In all it was a fun and easy pattern, which I would recommend.

Here’s a cute one I had to include of Daphne sneaking into the picture :)

I am also almost finished with the dishtowels! Hooray for one more thing (almost) off the list.

I also started a new project this weekend.

Mushroom collecting/storage bags:

This is the prototype for a mushroom collecting and storage bag I plan to make for my etsy shop. This is a test version I will keep for my personal use. The next few I make will be a little wider, as this one came out a little too narrow. I have always wanted to make a cloth bag for mushroom collection, as paper tends to fall apart, and plastic makes for some slimy mushrooms. This bag will be perfect for storing wild collected, or purchased mushrooms, and I just love the cute mushroom print fabric!

In other news – We went for a fun hike this weekend to the William L. Finley Wildlife Refuge. It is a beautiful area, and we didn’t even get rained on!

Motivation Part Two – Works in Progress

I feel better about life when I know I have works in progress.

Currently I am working on an apron for a friend’s birthday present. It is about half done, and should be completed by tonight or tomorrow.

I am also knitting up some dish towels for Christmas gifts. I plan to give these to my granny, mom, and mother-in-law. As far as the  yarn color, this would not have been my first choice, but I was able to get four balls for a dollar. What a deal! In these tough economic times I couldn’t afford to be too choosy. I am thinking these will be completed by the end of the weekend.

In other news related to motivation, I am trying to stick to my goal of at least one long walk a day, rain or shine. This isn’t always easy when we are having gloomy weather, but it is really important for Daph and me to get outside every day.

At least the scenery is nice even if it is wet!

Here Daphne is staying warm and dry!

Motivation

Hi. My name is Sarah. I am a wife, mother, and sewing enthusiast. In addition to sewing I  enjoy knitting, painting, drawing, collage, hiking, camping, reading, and spending time with my loved ones. As a full-time mom it can be a challenge to find the time and energy to stay motivated and pursue my creative interests. I need someone to answer to, and that’s where this blog comes in. Hopefully this will be  a source of inspiration, as well as motivation. I plan to document my creative adventures, as well as any other adventures that seem worth mentioning.
